The Ripple Effect: How I Landed on Teaching Reiki

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by energy, spirituality, health, and what it truly means to be well.

For years I explored these ideas through books, conversations, travel and lived experience, and later through mystery schools and under the tutelage of spiritual teachers, exploring all manner of modalities, philosophies and schools of thought.

Alongside this, I developed a deep passion for science and physics, searching for ways to understand physically what I was experiencing metaphysically.

I loved asking the big questions and exploring the nature of consciousness, connection and what it means to live a meaningful life. From the cosmos to the cells of the human body, I have explored energy.

For a long time, much of it remained an intellectual understanding.

Through my experiences and searching, many of my intellectual understandings had already become lived and felt truths. Yet I still felt there was a missing piece to the puzzle.

Life asked me to slow down, so I moved to Queenstown.

Then I found Reiki.

Or perhaps, more truthfully, Reiki found me.

Through an out-of-body meditation journey, I met new spirit guides who performed several hours of healing on me. Afterwards, my hands burned for almost three weeks before I gradually acclimated to this new heat flowing through them.

Still unsure what was unfolding inside me, I simply knew I felt renewed.

Then came the calling to study Reiki.

At first, I didn't automatically associate it with my meditation experience and the energetic activation in my hands. But once I found Reiki and began exploring it, it became clear to me that my guides had orchestrated this next progression so they could continue working through me. It felt like it was simply time to level up my awareness.

When I began practising Reiki, something shifted.

I no longer simply understood these ideas with my mind.

I began to experience them consistently through my own life.

I went from occasional moments of awakening to living in a much more continuous state of flow.

I did not learn Reiki through the mind.

I learned Reiki by feeling life force energy in my body.

Many of my lifelong questions began to be answered.

That we are all connected.

That the energy we bring into the world matters.

That how I cared for myself affected how I showed up for the people around me.

That my own state of being created a ripple far beyond myself.

The more I practised Reiki, the more I noticed subtle but profound changes. I became calmer. More present. More aware of my thoughts, my reactions and the energy I was bringing into each day. More aware of every creation I was manifesting.

The simple adage, where your attention goes, energy flows, began to unfold in an entirely new way.

I discovered that I could consciously cultivate qualities like compassion, gratitude and love, and that when I did, my experience of life changed with them.

Reiki stopped being something I did.

It became something I experienced life through.

What I love most about Reiki is that it isn't simply a philosophy to believe in.

It is a practice.

A practice of returning to yourself.

A practice of expressing love through your actions.

A practice that reminds you, over and over again, that healing begins within.

A practice of deeply listening to your own body, the body of another, the field around your body, the field around another, and the shared collective field between us.

I even started noticing the energetic fields of plants and animals. I found myself not only sensing energy, but seeing it.

I began experiencing the origin of energy so deeply that I could more easily distinguish what belonged to me and what belonged to someone else.

To me, this is gold.

Being able to differentiate these two energetic experiences opens a powerful pathway towards self-healing.

As my practice deepened, I developed my ability to channel love through my body into anyone and anything.

One of the most beautiful aspects of Reiki is its reciprocity.

As we offer Reiki to another person, we are also sitting within that same field of healing ourselves. The healing energy flows through us, not from us. In caring for another, we are continually invited back into our own centre, connecting with the essence of nourishment itself—the energy of nourishment from Source.

To me, that is one of life's most beautiful expressions of love.

And then something else happened.

Naturally, I wanted to share it.

I have always been a natural teacher and have taught many different subjects throughout my life. So when I reached this place with Reiki, I realised,

"Oh... I am meant to teach this."

Not because I wanted to become a Reiki teacher.

Not because I wanted more qualifications.

But because I had discovered a practice that had genuinely changed my life, and I wanted the people I loved to experience that too.

To help ease physical pain.

To soothe a headache.

To release stuck patterns held within the body and being.

To place their hands on a family member.

To support a friend through a difficult time.

To offer comfort without needing to fix anyone.

To simply be present, knowing they were taking an active role in amplifying this innate flow of higher intelligence moving through life for the betterment of humanity.

I realised this was something I was here to pass on.

That is how The Ripple Effect Series was born.

Because every act of kindness ripples.

Every moment of presence ripples.

Every person who learns to regulate their own nervous system ripples into their family, their relationships, their workplace, their clients and their community.

When one person heals, they inevitably touch the lives of others.

That is the ripple effect.

Teaching Reiki, for me, isn't about creating practitioners.

It is about sharing a practice that helps people reconnect with themselves, live with greater awareness, and express more love in the world.

Everything else is simply the ripple.

If this story resonates with you...

...perhaps there is a reason.

Whether you are simply curious about Reiki, feel called to begin your own practice, or have been searching for a grounded way to explore energy through direct experience rather than philosophy alone, I would love to welcome you into The Ripple Effect Series.
